turn on the light

When the lights go out,
you keep wanting to do things you would do if the lights were on.
You use light switches and forget there is no power.
You are happy for the invention of batteries
You are happy for the invention of candles.
You wonder how anyone got so much done by candle light.
You realize how quiet the world is because the radio, television, and stereo also doesn't work.
You realize how much time you waste.
You realize how much time you have.
You realize you can count, seconds, minutes, even hours.
You keep thinking of things you could do then realize you could only do them if you had more light.
You enjoy the darkness for about ten minutes then it gets really annoying.
You realize how much you depend on the sun to light your room.
You realize why curtains are a bother.
The way the sky gets gray during summer before it gets black.
How bright things are when the lights come back on.
how little you see
